KU is an outstanding university for graduate study. Excellent degree programs are offered in a wide variety of areas. Faculty take an active interest in their graduate students and engage them in their research. KU is one of 34 public members of the prestigious American Association of Universities (AAU), and KU is highly regarded among peer institutions nationwide. Finally, Lawrence is an inviting community in which to live, as is nearby Kansas City.

Here's how to apply for admission as a graduate student at KU:

  • Visit your prospective department's graduate degree program. The departments provide information on curriculum, faculty members, contacts, and the specific requirements of individual degree programs.
  • Determine your applicant status. Are you degree-seeking or non-degree-seeking, new applicant or former student seeking readmission, domestic or international? If you are not sure, please consult the applicant definitions page.
  • Apply on-line, if possible. You can submit a paper form instead if you prefer. (Students who meet certain eligibility requirements don't pay an application fee, but must submit a paper application and a Sponsored Fee Payment form.)
  • Know KU's institution code. When you submit GRE and TOEFL scores, use KU's code: 6871. (Information on minimum English proficiency and TOEFL scores is available from the Student Resources page of the International Programs web site.
